paul kastick biography
Having been fascinated by the forces of music throughout his childhood in Montego Bay, Jamaica, (which included piano, keyboards, bass, and horns), the drums is what Paul "GrooveGalore" KasticK would go on to master. The mastery of his instrument(s), as Kastick would put it, “was real life experience”, wood-shedding, gigging, and the road, took off at an early age for Paul. Always being young and pure at heart, he remains adventurous and versatile in his approach to live playing and producing, breaking down the boundaries of music, and bringing his own interpretation to the grooves. Now in his innovative prime, his quest is to be groovier & more cutting edge with his creative talent, in both the studio, and during his live touring performances around the world.
Kastick’s been in overdrive since the 80’s, when he was chosen in 1989 to rule the drummer’s chair for Jamaica’s top backing band 809. Since then Kastick has never looked back, nor taken any prisoners, as a Drummer, Music Director and Producer. He has gone on to produce for artists such as Tessanne Chin, 2013' Winner of the hit TV show 'The Voice', as well as, touring the globe with musical powerhouses including; Shaggy, Grammy nominated Maxi Priest, Reggae legend Bob Marley’s son Ky-Mani Marley, and the internationally renowned Reggae group Big Mountain. The experiences of a touring and studio musician awarded Kastick the opportunity to play with more than one backing band as well. In addition to Jamaica’s 809 Band, he played, recorded and toured with GrooveSociety, the original backing force behind Shaggy, from 1996-2000. In 2000, Kastick formed NativeXaymaycan Entertainment Muzik, Inc., the parent company of GrooveGalore Productions, his creative nest. KaticK's projects include major production work on all of Big Mountains last 6 CD releases; Things To Come (2000), One Love (2001), Cool Breeze (2001) New Day (2002), Cover’s In Paradise (2003), Big Mountain’s Greatest Moments (2004), and their latest release Perfect Summer (2016). Kastick also co-produces two of Jamaica’s hottest female Reggae, Punk, and Rock exports, Tessanne Chin (Winner of "The Voice" 2013) and Italee. |
![]() Kastick currently anchors the big bad, cutting edge, live drum sound and programming behind Maxi Priest, Ky-Mani Marley, Beres Hammond, Big Mountain, Diana King and Tessanne Chin under the alias GrooveGalore MuziK. His repertoire includes having toured, recorded, and performed alongside such musical greats as the late Dennis Brown, Shaggy, Rayvon, UK Pop sensation Apache Indian, Big Mountain, Percy Sledge, Gwen Guthrie, Diana King, Aswad, Steel Pulse, Freddie McGregor, Gregory Isaacs, Judy Mowatt, Capleton, Luciano, Buju Banton, Soul Case, Janna Bent, Beenie Man, Shabba Ranks, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Tony Rebel, Sizzla, Junior Kelly, Culture, Richie Stephens, Benji Myazz, Dean Fraser, Bob Marley’s Junior Marvin, Marcia Griffiths, I Threes, Rita Marley, Beres Hammond, Terry Linen, Carlene Davis, Junior Tucker, Leon & The Peoples, Bat-Sheva, Japanese DJ Nahki, and RnB sensation Sharissa. Going to the beach in my hometown of Montego Bay on Sundays and or Saturdays is one of the ultimate feeling of total freedom ever, eating Jamaican beef & or Cheese Patties its also a highlight for me which I have enjoyed from my childhood days. It’s one of the first things I do when I get out of Customs at the airport in Montego Bay, which lets me know I’m indeed home. "

kastick gets in the groove
"In 2011, a reggae-rocking song named Hideaway announced a relatively unknown singer named Tessanne Chin. Clocking over five minutes, its multiple chord changes and crunching guitars helped make it one of the biggest hits in Jamaica that year.Hideaway was co-produced by Paul Kastick, one of contemporary reggae's best known drummers. Between touring with Big Mountain, Maxi Priest and Diana King, he is preparing to release projects through his GrooveGalore MuziK company.
Let me Love You by Chin and Miami-based deejay Honorebel relaunched the label last year. Say I, a collaboration between Kenyan artiste Chiluba and Maxi Priest, and Show Me by Canadian singer Belinda Brady, are two its latest projects.
An avid fan of rock music, Kastick told the Jamaica Observer recently that some of GrooveGalore Muzik's releases will reflect that sound."
