“Four More Bodies” the beautifully poignant song of a Mining accident in West Virginia, penned by Allison Cornell will be re-released this February in recognition of recent investigations into the continued ill health, and dangerous conditions that miners continue to be subjected to. The song tells a story of Allison Cornell’s family’s deep roots in West Virginia’s mining region. Originally released by Allison’s project, Al & Ann, on the “Rope & Tie” album, from Broad Appeal Music in 2011.
Over the past year, NPR and the PBS program Frontline have interviewed dozens of miners across Appalachia. The interviews with miners were part of an investigation that found federal regulators, despite mounting evidence and a stream of dire warnings, failed to protect coal miners. "The coal industry is dirty in more ways than we knew. Regulation is dangerously relaxed and insufficient! My family history in West Virginia prompted me to speak out against these practices in Four More Bodies," states Allison Cornell when describing the inspiration when writing the song. “Four More Bodies’” with it folksy earthy foundation of Allison’s exceptional violin playing is only upstaged by Allison’s emotionally stirring vocals. The viola is quiet. Rest In Peace Allison you will be terribly missed. February 19, 2024 |
"I know that you are probably sick of hearing it from me, but Gabrielle and I are your biggest fans. You did so many astounding and creative tracks and became like the backbone of our recordings during that period. And I consider myself a great musical genius for deciding to turn JHOOM over to you. Amazing work."
